[Update: The beginning of the rollout has been moved to September 24]

PHP Runtime Generation 2 will begin rolling out on September 24 over a 40-day period, starting with dev environments of free sites then gradually moving through all site plans.

What’s New in PHP Runtime Generation 2:
- Support for the latest PHP versions, including PHP 8.4
- Long-Term Support (LTS) editions for PHP
- Updated PHP extensions and improved security features

Recommended Action:
We encourage you to opt into the beta now (https://docs.pantheon.io/php-runtime-generation-2#how-to-opt-in) to verify compatibility with your sites and ensure a smooth transition before the automatic upgrade rollout.

Certain OS packages and PHP extensions are not available with PHP Runtime Generation 2. If your site uses any of the following, we recommend opting out of the rollout for now (https://docs.pantheon.io/php-runtime-generation-2#q-how-do-i-opt-out-of-the-upcoming-platform-rollout):

- IBM PHP ODBC Driver
- wkhtmltopdf
- ioncube
- pdo_sqlsrv
- TLS 1.0-1.1
